Determinants of female labor force participation: implications for policy in Qatar

The aim of this study was to examine the microlevel factors affecting women’s participation in Qatar workforce, as gender gap employment is still wide, and addressing issue remains an essential item on government’s policy agenda. Data were collected via a national telephonic survey representative sample Qatari nationals, chosen using simple random sampling. A regression analysis performed with employment, individual-level characteristics (e.g., age, education, marital status), household-level number children below 18 years age household monthly income) variables. analytical model highlighted predictors at individual level well public attitudes toward societal obstacles that have adverse effects female labor force participation. results revealed several indicators affect force, including education level, status, age. These constructs found strongest (direct or indirect) terms pushing women into market. originality lies its ability explain how state-directed initiatives can encourage participate market thus facilitate rapid increase employed Qatar. methodological limitation cross-sectional design used it limits causations between government interventions research outcomes. findings indicate need for further improvement welfare regimes intrastate level.
